Vuka OS 0.1 Dawn (Seven) RC12 is a portable Kali Linux rolling-based AI desktop with Seven 4.4.0 integrated at login, local Ollama and OpenCode, an optional animated Seven companion, Wine 10 with 32-bit, .NET, Direct3D and MSI compatibility layers, live USB persistence and a graphical installer.

Release status: RC12 is an installation-verified release candidate. It passed exact ISO integrity, BIOS and UEFI live boot, branded desktop, two-boot persistence, the complete live-filesystem Windows fixture matrix, clean blank-disk installation and an ISO-detached reboot audit. It is not labelled final stable until a Rufus-written USB has passed on physical hardware.

Write the ISO to a USB flash drive as an image with Rufus or an equivalent raw-image writer. Do not extract the ISO onto the drive. A 16 GB USB drive is the practical minimum; 32 GB or larger is recommended for persistence.

Security and authority warning

Seven is intentionally not sandboxed. Its graphical process can control the user desktop and accessible devices. Vuka’s separate root service gives authorised local sudo-group users unrestricted UID 0 execution through a protected local socket. Root actions are logged, but logging is accountability rather than containment. Compromise of Seven or an authorised local account must be treated as full-machine compromise.

Important limitations

  • Vuka is based on Kali Linux rolling and is not a conservative long-term-support distribution.
  • No LLM model weights are embedded; users deliberately choose and download models.
  • Wine does not include Windows and cannot guarantee compatibility. Kernel drivers, Microsoft Store/UWP software, many anti-cheat systems, current Microsoft 365 desktop and Adobe Creative Cloud remain unsupported or unreliable.
  • Virtual-machine evidence cannot prove physical microphone, camera, Bluetooth, suspend/resume, HiDPI, multi-display, GPU, robotics, SMB/RDP peer or removable-media behaviour.
  • The ISO is larger than 4 GiB and must be written using a hybrid-image-capable tool; copying it to FAT32 is insufficient.
